Student Poster & Paper Contest
The California Weed Science Society (CWSS) is preparing for the 76th Annual Conference and is now accepting applications for the Student Paper and Poster Contest. At this time the conference is being planned as an in person event held on January 22-24th 2025 At the Hyatt Regency in Sacramento. It is an EXCELLENT opportunity for students to share their research results by competing in a paper or poster competition for CASH PRIZES.
Papers and Posters should consist of information gathered from research projects related to weed science and vegetation management. Undergraduate students do not have to present results of their own research, but they must be familiar with all aspects of the research. Student posters should be scientific in nature and should not be sales or marketing tools.
Undergraduate and Graduate students will be judged in separate categories. The number of prizes given will depend on the number of students in each section.
There will be a limited number of speaking slots available to students for the paper competition, where they will be no limitation on the number of poster slots. Students will be expected to submit short descriptions of their posters or presentations at the time of entry, to qualify for DPR continuing education credits.
FREE Conference Registration! All students entered in the contest are eligible to attend the CWSS Annual Conference for free! Students can register for the conference on-line at https://cwss.org/conferences/
There will also be a free student lunch for attendees, with an opportunity for networking. If funding is needed for travel and lodging at the conference there will be some available.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to the Student Liaison, Tom Getts at 530-251-2650 or tjgetts@ucanr.edu.
***Students who have won first place in a previous year, are NOT eligible to participate in the contest they won (poster or paper). Undergraduate students who have transitioned to a graduate degree can participate in the graduate contest, even if they won the undergraduate contest.
